2015

In 2015 we ran a pilot program with ten 3rd year psychology students from  the Wollongong campus and ten 3rd year Psychology students from the SIM campus.    The program  was funded by  an   AsiaBound Mobility Grant from the Department of Education.

2016

In 2016 we ran a 2nd pilot program with ten 3rd year psychology students from  the Wollongong campus and ten 3rd year Psychology students from the SIM campus.     The program  was funded by  the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wollongong .

PICS 2017

PICS 2017 was held on 10-14 April 2017
Thirty two 3rd-year UOW psychology students took part in the program; 16 completing their degree on the Wollongong campus who traveled to Singapore, and 16 completing their degree at our partner institution Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore.     The program  was funded by  an   Australian Government New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant .

​Post-program survey results indicated a 89% approval rating.  Further, 73% of students indicated that the program exceeded their expectations, and 100% indicating it met or exceeded their expectations.   With reference to the primary aims of the New Colombo Plan, the survey also indicated that PICS2017 had:

  • Increased their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region and its people for 83% of students
  • Increased the number of friends and connections they have in the region for 93% of students
  • Resulted in them considering studying part of their degree in another country in the Indo-Pacific region for 38% of students
  • Made them more "work-ready" by gaining regional connections and experience for 43% of students

PICS 2018

PICS 2018 was held on 16-20 April 2018
​Twenty 3rd-year UOW psychology students took part in the program; 10 completing their degree on the Wollongong campus who traveled to Singapore, and 10 completing their degree at our partner institution Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore.    The program  was funded by  the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wollongong .

Post-program survey results indicated a 89% approval rating.  Further, 88% of students indicated that the program exceeded their expectations, and 100% indicating it met or exceeded their expectations.   With reference to the primary aims of the New Colombo Plan, the survey also indicated that PICS2018 had:

  • Increased their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region and its people for 88% of students
  • Increased the number of friends and connections they have in the region for 94% of students
  • Resulted in them considering studying part of their degree in another country in the Indo-Pacific region for 71% of students
  • Made them more "work-ready" by gaining regional connections and experience for 71% of students

PICS 2019

PICS2019 was held on 21-28 April 2019. 
Thirty six 3rd-year UOW psychology students took part in the program; 20 completing their degree on the Wollongong campus who travelled to Singapore, and 16 completing their degree at our partner institution Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore.    The program  was funded by  an   Australian Government New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant .

Post-program survey results indicated a 90% approval rating.  Further, 79% of students indicated that the program exceeded their expectations, and 100% indicating it met or exceeded their expectations.  With reference to the primary aims of the New Colombo Plan, the survey also indicated that PICS2019 had:

  • Increased their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region and its people for 76% of students
  • Increased the number of friends and connections they have in the region for 97% of students
  • Resulted in them considering studying part of their degree in another country in the Indo-Pacific region for 53% of students
  • Made them more "work-ready" by gaining regional connections and experience for 56% of students

PICS 2022

PICS2022 was held on 27 June to 1st July 2022. 
Our biggest program so far! Forty five 3rd-year UOW psychology students took part in the program; 25 completing their degree on the Wollongong campus who travelled to Singapore, and 20 completing their degree at our partner institution Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore.  The 5-day program involved meeting fellow UOW students studying a similar degree in a different country, attending workshops on counselling skills and practice, attending a Psychology Research Seminar, designing a research study, two careers workshops featuring UOW and SIM academic staff, a Q&A session with Northfields Psychology Clinic staff and interns, and experiencing Singapore and its amazing cultures.  
 
Post-program survey results indicated a 92% approval rating.  Further, 76% of students indicated that the program exceeded their expectations, and 100% indicated it met or exceeded their expectations.  With reference to the primary aims of the New Colombo Plan, the survey also indicated that PICS2022 had:

  • Increased their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region and its people for 88% of students
  • Increased the number of friends and connections they have in the region for 100% of students
  • Resulted in them considering studying part of their degree in another country in the Indo-Pacific region for 53% of students
  • Made them more "work-ready" by gaining regional connections and experience for 53% of students

PICS 2023

PICS2023 was held on 24 June to 7th July 2023. 
Our longest program so far, of 14 days! Thirty  eight    3rd-year UOW psychology students took part in the program; 16 completing their degree on the Wollongong campus who travelled to Singapore, and 18 completing their degree at our partner institution Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore.  The program involved meeting fellow UOW students studying a similar degree in a different country, attending workshops on counselling skills and practice, attending a Psychology Research Seminar, designing a research study, two careers workshops featuring UOW and SIM academic staff, a Q&A session with Northfields Psychology Clinic staff and interns, and experiencing Singapore and its amazing cultures.  
 
Post-program survey results indicated a 90% approval rating.  Further, 61% of students indicated that the program exceeded their expectations, and 96% indicated that it met or exceeded their expectations.  With reference to the primary aims of the New Colombo Plan, the survey also indicated that PICS2023 had:
 
  • Increased their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region and its people for 91% of students
  • Increased the number of friends and connections they have in the region for 96% of students
  • Resulted in them considering studying part of their degree in another country in the Indo-Pacific region for 56% of students
  • Made them more "work-ready" by gaining regional connections and experience for 70% of students

PICS 2024

PICS2024 was held on 22 June to 5th July 2024. 
 Thirty     3rd-year UOW psychology students took part in the program; 14 completing their degree on the Wollongong campus who travelled to Singapore, and 16 completing their degree at our partner institution Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore.  The program involved meeting fellow UOW students studying a similar degree in a different country, attending workshops on counselling skills and practice, attending a Psychology Research Seminar, designing a research study, two careers workshops featuring UOW and SIM academic staff, a Q&A session with Northfields Psychology Clinic staff and interns, and experiencing Singapore and its amazing cultures.  
 
Post-program survey results indicated a 91% approval rating.   69% of students indicated that the program exceeded their expectations, and 99% indicated that it met or exceeded their expectations.  With reference to the primary aims of the New Colombo Plan, the survey also indicated that PICS2024 had:
 
  • Increased their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region and its people for 100% of students.
  • Increased the number of friends and connections they have in the region for 85% of students.
  • Resulted in them considering studying part of their degree in another country in the Indo-Pacific region for 50% of students.
  • Made them more "work-ready" by gaining regional connections and experience for 100% of students.
PICS is funded by the Australian Government's New Colombo Plan (NCP) mobility grants, with support from the Faculty of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the School of Psychology at the University of Wollongong, and Singapore Institute of Management.
